DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A 3-year-old child died following a crash on Friday night involving a dirt bike and an SUV in DeKalb County, according to the police department.

Officers responded to the intersection of N. Hairston Road and Chatfield Road around 7:21 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, after reports of a serious crash. Investigators found a 3-year-old child seriously hurt, along with two adults who suffered non-life-threatening injuries. All three were rushed to local hospitals, where the child later died from their injuries.

According to the DeKalb County Police Department, an SUV was heading south on Hairston Road and attempting to turn left into a neighborhood when a dirt bike crashed into its passenger side.

Investigators determined the people on the dirt bike were not wearing any safety gear and were thrown off the bike after it hit the car. Police also noted that the dirt bike had no headlights and was not authorized for road use.

There were three children and one adult inside the SUV at the time of the crash, but none of them required medical attention.

Authorities have not released further details about potential charges or contributing factors, but the investigation remains active.
