UPDATE, 01/10/2023, 5:10 P.M. – The Columbia County School District has released an official statement.

According to the Columbia County Sheriff's Office, the bus driver was not at fault.

Investigators say that the 6-year-old, who is not a student of the Columbia County School District, was operating a motorized toy car, and it collided with the school bus as it began to drive away causing injuries to the child.

According to the Columbia County School District, parents of the students on the bus at the time were notified and came to pick up their children.

According to Columbia County Sheriff's Office, the 6-year-old is in stable condition.

In the Columbia County School District official statement, it says that they are "extending sincere wishes for a speedy recovery for the young person involved in this unfortunate accident."

It happened in the River Island subdivision in Evans on Monday afternoon.

The Columbia County Sheriff's Office says the child was "run over" by a school bus.
